# Berke Aslan I hold an MSc in Operations Research from the University of Groningen in the Netherlands, where I specialized in mathematical optimization and machine learning (ML). Below is some cool stuff I have worked on both academically and professionally: - Built [Mediaverzoek.nl](https://www.berkeaslan.com/mediaverzoek.nl/) (ARCHIVED), Dutch for "media request", that let real estate agents get listing-ready photos from home sellers using AI to direct them through the shoot. Think of it as a payment request, but for photos instead of euros. - Built a tool that used AI agents to find treaty rates and Dijkstra's algorithm to give multinationals a starting point for lowering their tax burden (read: save billions of dollars) on international transactions: [TreatyHopper](https://www.berkeaslan.com/treatyhopper/) (ARCHIVED) ([blog post](https://berke.bearblog.dev/pay-less-taxes-using-web-agents-a-directed-graph-and-dijkstras-algorithm/)). - Developed a new method for routing optical waveguides on photonic chips using Bézier curves, resulting in more compact and efficient chip designs. - Founded a startup, De Bezwaarfabriek (Dutch for "the appeals factory"), specializing in appealing traffic fines using fine-tuned large language models. Featured in Dutch media including [De Telegraaf](https://www.telegraaf.nl/binnenland/vloedgolf-aan-ai-bezwaren-dreigt-gemeenten-plat-te-leggen-ze-onderschatten-wat-er-op-ze-afkomt/68030543.html) and [NL Times](https://nltimes.nl/2024/12/29/ai-generated-objections-overwhelm-dutch-municipalities), and on the [Legal Tech Map](https://www.legaltechmap.nl). - Built an audio recognition system based on Shazam's fingerprinting algorithm to identify ads in audio streams. - Simulated multiple logistics warehouses from scratch to optimize item placement and streamline order picking for a company in logistics (approx. €2.4B group revenue) and e-commerce (approx. €520M revenue). - Applied adaptive large neighborhood search to solve the multi-trip electric vehicle routing problem with parcel lockers. Computations were performed on the Hábrók high-performance computing cluster at the University of Groningen. - At age 17, developed a proof of concept for a DNA-based digital storage system, where each base (A, C, G, T) represented a pair of bits (00, 01, 10, 11). Synthesized multiple oligonucleotides and sequenced them to verify the concept. - At age 15, built a cluster computer using Raspberry Pis. - And many more. I'll soon be starting as an AI Engineer in the Dutch construction industry, joining one of the largest construction companies in the Netherlands.
